Science
Here at Woore Primary and Nursery school, we strive to give children as many opportunities to work scientifically as possible and hope to foster and develop a new generation of scientists that ask BIG questions about the world that we live in and are naturally inquisitive too. We provide all of our children with learning opportunities that engage, challenge and encourage practical exploration and discovery. Our lessons are sequenced and centred around key learning from the National Curriculum Framework. We aim to provide children with the foundations for understanding the world around them and to be passionate about Science and how it's study can completely change the way that we live.
Through our Science curriculum, we aim to encourage children’s curiosity and sense of awe and wonder about the world through memorable, hands-on experiences in a range of contexts. We feel that by doing this, our children will have the opportunity to embed and deepen their knowledge and skills across the Science curriculum.
Across the school, Science is taught using curriculum units from Kapow that are fully sequenced and enable teachers to adapt their learning to meet the needs of all children within their classes. Teachers ensure that prior substantive knowledge from previous years is built upon and that children's disciplinary knowledge is developed through the understanding of scientific methods and carrying out investigations and enquiries. Due to our mixed year groups, Science topics are taught on a 2 yearly rolling programme, which ensures the Science curriculum has been covered before the children leave for further education.
Our children say that 'Science is fun because we can learn about how things work and we can invent new ways of doing things'and in particular, they said, 'We love doing exciting experiments because it feels like we are doing magic.' As our world continues to evolve and change, we feel it is important to ensure that all our children at Woore Primary School are at the forefront of this and are enthused and passionate about how they can impact their own futures.
