Best of British Week
Last week, pupils at Woore Primary School celebrated a ‘Best of British’ week. On Monday, pupils were visited by ‘Creative Workshops’ where each class embarked on activities in ‘The Windrush and Britishness’ workshop. This workshop led the pupils back in time to when black Jamaicans first came to Britain and followed their story to present day. Pupils took part in various activities and songs and this gave pupils a deeper understanding of ‘Britishness’. The workshop was enjoyed by all.
Throughout the week classes led their own projects relating to the five British Values (Tolerance, Democracy, The Rule of Law, Mutual Respect and Individual Liberty). Pupils discussed each of the values and thought about things that are particularly ‘British’. Various activities took place, during which, children produced posters, flags, scrolls, artwork and design & technology to capture the week’s theme.
Baking was also hot on the agenda for pupils, staff and parents in readiness for our ‘Afternoon Tea’ on Thursday. Parents and friends were invited along to this very successful event which supported the Macmillan Cancer charity. The school council organised the event and led games such as ‘Fake or Bake’ and ‘Spot the Cake’. In addition to this, a cake auction was held whilst pupils and parents relaxed and enjoyed a cup of tea and a cake. A grand total of £168.37 was raised for the charity.
To end the week, pupils and parents took part in a Harvest Festival held at St. Leonards Church, Woore. Pupils sang songs, read poems and readings and enjoyed celebrating the harvest. All donated food items will be given to the Market Drayton Food Bank.
All in all, a very productive week of learning, fun, songs, and games took place to embrace ‘Britishness’ and British Values.
