Recycle, Re-Use, Reduce!

Date: 5th Feb 2019 @ 9:24pm

Class 1 have been extremely busy over the last few weeks learning all about recycling and re-using the things we no longer want. We have had a particular focus on how our litter and rubbish affects the environment, particularly animals in the wild. Through our story of 'The Messy Magpie' the children have become aware of the dangers that our litter can cause to the many animals we love.

This week we are looking at 'Plastic Pollution' and the mess our countryside and oceans find themselves in.  We have already tried to 'do our bit' and had some volunteer litter pickers on the school grounds.

This work has led us to investigate different materials and we are looking forward to digging up our rubbish that we put into 'land-fill' two weeks ago to find out what has happened to them.

The children are now really good at sorting out the different items of rubbish so you should have a very good helper at home to ensure all your rubbish is sorted correctly for recycling.

Towards the end of our unit we will be talking more about 'Reducing' our rubbish, especially plastics. Please encourage your children to think about this at home too!

Happy sorting and reducing!
