Night and Day
Date: 15th Dec 2018 @ 2:39pm
Sat around the fire in Forest School, watching the sun slide down to the horizon seemed the perfect time to think about the shorter days of this time of year. By hometime it was nearly dark (and much colder too!), so by the time our Science lesson came around 24 hours later, we were ready to explore why we have night and day. We discussed the rotation of the earth, the tilt on our axis (less painful than it sounds) and how and why our days are shorter at this time of year. We have enjoyed our solar system topic, and have just one lesson left before the Christmas break. We watched a video showing a sunrise from space too, which you can see here:

In English Mr Felton has been leading the class in some Christmas songwriting lessons, exploring the type of language and rhythms used in Christmas classics - we are writing our own chart-toppers on Tuesday. We managed to fit in another piece of wintry writing on Friday, drawing inspiration from this film version of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf:

In Maths we have been trying some trick decimal word problems, which brings an end (for now!) on our work on fractions, decimals and percentages.
In PE we are preparing for next week's Basketball and Handball competitions. You should have received a letter to say if your child is taking part.
Thank you for all your support in the school play on Monday: the children had worked so hard in preparing, so it was wonderful to see so many of you for both performances.
Next week is our last before the big Ho Ho Ho, and is very busy, with the party on Monday, the panto on Tuesday, and the sports competition on Thursday! Phew!
