Learning about the rainforests
Date: 12th Jan 2020 @ 2:46pm
This week the children have been locating some of the different rainforests across the world. We learnt that the world has an imaginary line around it called the equator and that this is where most of the rainforests are found. The children were able to talk about why many plants grow in the rainforest where it is hot and wet.
In our art lesson we talked about the famous artist Henri Roussau and had a close look at his rainforest paintings. We talked about the types of animals he painted and how he paints very detailed leaf and flower images which are often over-sized. We are very eager to create our own masterpieces based upon his work. In our lessons we will combine a mixture of printing, painting and collage to create the effect that we want.
Our first Science lesson of the half term focussed upon animals. This week we have been learning the names of different types of animals before we look more closely next week about how animals differ from one another.
Children in reception have had the opportunity to play with the small world jungle area and sort different animals into different categories.
We have received some fantastic books from the school library service and have already read up about rainforests and had a lovely jungle story.
The children are excited to learn out more in the coming weeks.
