Class 2 End of Term Update

Date: 13th Dec 2022 @ 3:25pm

As we reach the end of the Autumn term, shivering in sub zero temperatures, September feels like such a long time ago!  In terms of the learning that has gone on too, it seems like we have made massive strides forward since returning from the Summer holidays.

In English, we have written diaries, stories and poems galore.  We have studied The Lion and the Unicorn and re-written the Gingerbread Man.  We have read books by Michael Morpurgo and Shirley Hughes.  Our handwriting is improving all the time and many of us are now feeling much more confident forming and joining letters accurately.

In Maths we have recapped on place value and started to look at bigger and bigger numbers.  We have cracked column addition and subtraction and worked out that once you know how to do this, you can work with HUGE numbers!  In the last few weeks we have been looking at multiplication and division.  Year 2 and 3 are getting more an dmore secure with their 3x, 4x and 8x tables, whilst Year 4 have got to grips with 6x and 9x tables.  We will keep practising these into the Spring Term.

In Science, we have learnt about materials: where they come from and how we choose which to use.  The children created some super posters encouraging us not to waste our preciuos resources.  This half-term, we have looked at animals and how they stay healthy.  From diet to skeletons, we have looked at all sorts of creatures and how they strive to stay healthy and why this is so important to their species.

Across the curriculum, we have studied the impact of World War 2 on the people of Britain and we have learnt about the island of Madagascar.  We have thought about what it means to follow God, how to safe at home and created our own songs.  In the last few weeks we have been especially creative - painting plates and designing rafts.

Throw in swimming and gymnastics, school plays, trips to the theatre and RAF museums and you can see what a busy bunch Class 2 have been.  They definitely deserve Christmas rest, ready to go again in January!
