Amazing plants

Wow, what an impressive fortnight of plant study in class1. Last week we took advantage of the beautiful sunshine and took ourselves outside to study the wild plants found within our school grounds. The children learnt some of the plant names and made a tally of how many they could find. There were loads of daisies! We even spent some time working on our fine motor skills when making daisy chains.
In the classroom we are growing grass hedgehogs and are looking forward to seeing the grass sprouting to show the hedgehogs' spikes. We are also watching some carrot tops which we have put in water to find out what happens to them.
This week we have been studying plants found in our gardens and have been learning some of their names. We looked really closely at lots of different flowers and made observational drawings of them (please take a look at the gallery). We also pressed some of our favourites and are looking forward to using them to make book marks in a few weeks time.
Next week we will be looking more scientifically when we plant our bean seeds and will watch the plants as they grow, looking carefully at their roots and shoots. We will also be studying the conditions required for growth through setting up a plant investigation.
