Key Stage 2 - 2017

This is the second year in which the 2017 key stage 2 assessments have assessed the more challenging national curriculum. Last year, new tests and interim frameworks for teacher assessment were introduced to reflect the revised curriculum. Results are no longer reported using levels and instead each pupil will now receive their test results as a scaled score and their teacher assessments as one of a number of categories.

Reading

In reading, 100% of children achieved the 'Expected' level and 42.9% of children achieved 'Greater Depth'. Pupils achieving the expected level in Shropshire this year was 74.7% and nationally 71.5%. The average scaled score in reading was 106.7.

Writing

In writing, 85.7% of children achieved the 'Expected' level. Pupils achieving the expected level in Shropshire this year was 75.6% and nationally 76.3%.

Mathematics

In mathematics, 42.9% of children achieved the 'Expected' level and 28.6% of children achieved 'Greater Depth'. Pupils achieving the expected level in Shropshire this year was 75.1% and nationally 74.8%. The average scaled score in maths was 101.4.

Grammar,  Punctuation and Spelling

This year 85.7% of KS2 children achieved the 'Expected' level and 14.3% of children achieved 'Greater Depth' in Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. Pupils achieving the expected level in Shropshire this year was 75.2% and nationally 76.9%. The average scaled score in GPS was 106.6.

Reading, Writing and Maths

Across all subjects of Reading, Writing and Maths, 28.6% of pupils achieved the 'Expected' level as opposed to 62.2% in Shropshire and 61.1% of pupils nationally.

Key Stage 1 - 2017

As with the changes in the KS2 curriculum and testing arrangements, the curriculum and testing arrangements in KS1 mirrored that of last year. The curriculum and tests have been more challenging and expectations have been raised.

Reading

In reading, 66.7% of children in KS1 achieved the 'Expected' level and 22.2% achieved 'Greater Depth'. In Shropshire 73.8% of pupils achieved the expected level (national 75.6%) with 26.2% achieving 'Greater Depth' (national 25.2%).

Writing

In writing, 77.8% of children achieved the 'Expected' level and 22.2% achieved 'Greater Depth'. In Shropshire 65.7% of pupils achieved the expected level (national 68.2%) with 15.7% achieving 'Greater Depth' (national 15.6%).

Mathematics

In mathematics 77.8% of children achieved the 'Expected' level and 11.1% achieved 'Greater Depth'. In Shropshire 71.9% of pupils achieved the expected level (national 75.2%) with 18.8% achieving 'Greater Depth' (20.5% nattional).

Reading, Writing and Maths

Across all subjects of Reading, Writing and Maths, 44.4% of pupils achieved the 'Expected' level as opposed to 60.1% in Shropshire and 63.7% nationally.

Phonics Screening Check

In 2017, 100% of Y1 pupils passed the phonics screening check and 100% of pupils sitting the test at Y2 also passed.

Good Level of Development

At the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), 80% of pupils achieved a Good Level of Development. This means that pupils reached the expected level in the prime areas of learning (Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development) and Literacy and Maths.
