Christmas is coming... and so are the columns.

Date: 19th Nov 2021 @ 3:49pm

Well, you may have noticed that a certain holiday is on it's way.  You can't move for tins of Quality Street and the TV is full of adverts with fake snow and cosy sweaters.  Yes, it's that time of year again and in school we are busy getting ready for Christmas.  The children are already rehearsing hard for our Nativity play, 'The Angel who nearly Missed it All'.  Songs are being sung, directions are being given and lines are (sort of) being learnt!  You should have receuved a slip of paper if we need help for your child's costume.  The big night is on Friday 10th Decemeber and I know that Class 2 children will be so excited to share their play with you all

However it's not all about you -know-what.  In Maths we have recently started using columns to add, and we wil be doing the same with subtraction also.  I know lots of parents worry about supporting their child with maths, so I have attached an example so that you can see how we teach in columns and see if it is similar to how you were taught!

The children are now ready for this as they have shown good understanding of place value (what each number means). Personally I feel that working in columns is quick, easy and very useful in everyday life.

We will be moving on to money and using our new number knowledge to solve all sorts of problems to do with the cost of things.  Perfect for all those Christmas Lists ready to be written!
